Main Task: Profiling Audience

My profiling audience is a stereotypical representation of who my magazine is aimed at and who it's for.

Main Task: Audience Research

After devising my audience research, it has come to my attention that:

The name 'Nouveau Millésime' which is New Vintage in French was received very well and achieved the most votes.

From all the prices available, which were £2, £2.10, & £2.40, the most popular price was:

£2

The colour scheme recieved positive feedback, but one of the people i asked suggested a more neautral colour. This is something i may have to look into and explore.

It's also been said that the front cover of the magazine in general is important so that it's eye catching and recognisable on a shelf next to other magazines.

The best Indie/Rock magazine according to my research was:

NME and Q

The added content to include films also went down well and was approved by all of the people that included feedback.

For the content, people has asked that they would be interested in hearing about new bands and a lot about gigs.

Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Denotation
A picture of four men, on a single page of a double page spread in a music magazine.

Connotation
They are all either dressed in blue, or either wearing jeans which could connote their mood and how relaxed they are. Their long hair for 3 out of the four of them could suggest how laid back they are so they don't mind if their hear grows longer. These day, a lot of indie people are seen to wear check shirts, therefore, the fact that one of them is wearing one, could suggest that the band are a fan of indie music or maybe even play indie music.

Mise en Scene

Setting - The background is white and is most likely in a studio. The fact that it's not on location shows the effort to keep the whole image simple.
Props - Their are no props in this image whatsoever which could show the simple look that they were looking for; therefore, props were not needed.
Costume - The costume that they are wearing can be classed as an 'indie' look. However, what they are wearing is so casual it can give the reader the impression that they didn't change and they just put on the first thing they saw in the wardrobe.
Light - The lighting is very basic and natural. Lighting that is un-naturalistic is not needed and is therefore not used.
NVC - Their non verbal communication is very relaxed, calm and very comfortable. However, they look like they are doing the interview just for the sake of it

Anchorage
The font and style of the writing are not the same yet they look very similar and work well together. The colour of the writing is black and silver/grey but they work well together as they both have a mellow tone to them. The font also looks very valuable, arty and grand, but not that posh. This is how the editor may have wanted the band to come across as.

Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

Denotation
It’s a picture of a group of four men on a music magazine cover.

Connotation
The picture connotes that they are musicians and possibly indie ones because of their clothing. We can assume that the man (Pete Doherty) with all the props is the lead singer of the band and that he is probably the main leader. This is because he is wearing a blazer, even though it’s teamed with jeans it shows that he is possibly taking things more seriously than the others by wearing something so formal. As well as this, we can tell that he is the leader because in the picture he seems to stand out more than the others with his hair being different to everyone else’s simple hair do. The union jack flag and the medals on his blazer could suggest that he has a huge amount of respect for soldiers and people who are out ion the war.

Mise en Scene

Setting-The setting is very simple and white. However, the white is not pure, but more dirty and shows that if they write their own songs, the material is likely to be very raw.
Props – There aren’t a lot or props, apart from badges on what looks like the lead (Pete Doherty’s) blazer and a necklace and a union jack flag which could show that he’s proud to be British.
Costume - Their clothing is very relaxed and casual. They are wearing: jeans; jumpers; blazers; leather jackets; and simple shirts. This is what some people may class as a ‘indie/rock’ look which may have been what they were going for.
Light - The light is very natural and pale. It’s probably taken in a studio because a location wasn’t needed for the shoot. The picture also looks even more natural because the shadow of all the men is very realistic and true to the picture which means there wasn’t any manipulation with the picture in the lights department.

NVC – The non-verbal communication is very relaxed but at the same time still engaged with the camera. The fact the Pete Doherty has his arm around one of the men also shows comfort ability with the people around him.

Anchorage

The font is very similar to everything else that is going on in the magazine, including the picture. The consistent black, white and the bold red make it look edgy, but also able to pass off as any genre because of the use and choice of colour.

Main Task: Introduction

Hi, my name is Debbie. I'm an AS Media student and I will be creating my own music magazine. The genre that i've chosen is Rock/Indie. I will be creating a front cover, a contents page and a double page spread. For my planning and research I will aim to work on photoshop more to become more comfortable with it. I will be buying and reading more magazine in the genre that I have chosen and I will study the font sizes and the content of a Rock/Indie magazine.
